Fighting Cuba’s Boxing Ban


In 2016, women's Olympic boxing flourished, but Cuba—a boxing powerhouse—banned female fighters. Enter Hatzumy Carmenate, a young girl defying norms by training with coach Luis Pérez. As US-Cuba relations thaw, Hatzumy dreams of reuniting with her father stateside to continue boxing. Pérez hopes Cuba's ban will soon be lifted.
